France has ordered its diplomats from Iran due to the attack on the British embassy in Tehran on Tuesday, said on Saturday a spokesman for the Foreign Ministry.
The goal of repatriation is to ensure the safety of certain diplomats “were more vulnerable than others,” the spokesman said.
“We want to protect our diplomatic personnel and their families after what happened at the British Embassy (in Tehran),” the spokesman said. “The context is particularly tense.”
The spokesman said the move was temporary, and declined to say how many diplomats were to be removed or when they return to France.
France withdrew its ambassador to Iran after the British embassy in Tehran was attacked in protest against the imposition of new sanctions on Iran in connection with its controversial nuclear program.
In response, Britain closed its embassy and expelled all Iranian diplomats, but did not sever diplomatic relations.
Other countries have withdrawn their diplomats in Tehran, such as Germany, Italy and Holland.
